What is the a2 Milk™ difference?

  • Nutrition & health
  • a2
a2 Milk™ by Anchor is fresh, natural cows’ milk that contains only the A2 beta-casein protein.

This is because it comes from specially selected cows that naturally produce only the A2 protein and none of the A1 protein - and that makes all the difference.

Regular cows’ milk contains a mixture of A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins. However, this wasn’t always the case. Back in the day, cows only used to produce the A2 protein and then over time the A1 protein developed. Due to natural genetic variation, herds now mostly produce a mixture of the A1 and A2 proteins in their milk.

What are the benefits?

For some of those people who have trouble drinking regular cow’s milk, it might be because of the A1 protein. a2 Milk™ by Anchor might make a difference with many people saying it just feels better in their bodies.

79% of New Zealand testers felt better after drinking a2 Milk™ compared to regular cow's milk.*

Like regular cows’ milk, a2 Milk™ is a valuable source of essential nutrients such as calcium, protein, and vitamin B2. a2 Milk™ Blue™ also contains a source of vitamin A.

What about lactose intolerance?

Milk intolerance, commonly referred to as lactose intolerance, is caused by the body’s inability to digest lactose.

People who are lactose intolerant don’t have the enzyme, lactase, which plays a key role in breaking down lactose. When this enzyme is missing, the lactose remains in the person’s digestive system and is instead broken down by gut bacteria. This produces excess gas and other by-products, leading to symptoms such as bloating and cramps.

Lactose intolerant? Lactose is still found in a2 Milk™, so check out our Zero Lacto milk range.
