Plant-Based Bottle FAQ's

General Product Information

While the milk is the same – all natural from NZ farms – when you buy milk from Anchor’s carbonzero™ certified range you will also have the satisfaction of helping the environment.

How?... We’ve measured all the emissions of making Anchor’s carbonzero™ certified range, right from the farm to disposal. We’ve then offset these emissions by buying carbon credits to fund forest regeneration and renewable energy projects in NZ and overseas.

The carbon footprint from the bottle is included in the footprint and offset for carbonzero™ certification, so when you purchase Anchor carbonzero™ milk, you are choosing a bottle that is fully recyclable and the carbon footprint from the milk, packaging, and distribution is fully offset.

Yes these bottles are  recyclable (classified as grade 2).

50% of the credits support native forest regeneration in Kaikoura, and the rest are split between a renewable energy project in New Caledonia and solar power project in India.

As climate change is a global challenge, Anchor appreciates that to deliver globally positive outcomes, solutions must span beyond our backyard.

We're serious about putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do.  While we're actively working to reduce our carbon footprint of our specialty range, that can take time. We know that this is one small step, but this is something that we can do right now - that's why we're offsetting our emissions for these milks.

At this stage, this range will only be sold to New Zealand Anchor consumers. The Anchor range of specialty milks is only available in New Zealand.

A carbon credit is a way for businesses like ours to support defined environmental projects that store, avoid or reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) to balance out the impact of emissions that occur when products are made. We use carbon credits approved by our carbonzero™ certifier, Toitū Envirocare, to ensure the highest quality projects that represent verifiable emissions reductions.

Toitū’s carbonzero™ programme and the carbon credits purchased as part of the programme, are not part of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and therefore no credits sourced by Fonterra as part of the ETS are used to achieve carbonzero™ certification.

North of Kaikoura in the Marlborough district. The land is 750 ha of covenanted land protected with fencing and pest control to allow native forest regeneration.
