Grease a cake pan and line its base with parchment paper.
in a bowl, add the dates along with the boiling water and baking soda, set aside till dates are soft (about 30 mins).
Mix the butter, sugar and vanilla together using an electric mixer until they turn pale and are creamy in texture. Add in the eggs, 1 egg at a time, mixing well after each.
Then add the dates, sifted flour, salt, and mix well.
Add the mixture into the cake pan.
Bake for 40-45 mins until it’s cooked and an inserted skewer comes out clean.
Allow to rest for 10 mins, then place on a rack.
For the glaze
Add the butter and honey in a small pan.
Bring to a boil, stirring till the butter melts. Allow it to boil for less than a minute.
Remove from heat, add the mixed chopped nuts and finally spoon it over the cake.
